How to Tie an Oriental Knot (Simple Knot)

Oriental Knot Tying Steps

  1. Begin with the wide end on your right with the seam facing out. The tip of the narrow end should rest just above your navel.
  2. Take the wide end behind the narrow end to the left.
  3. Bring it across the front to the right.
  4. Take it up under the neck loop.
  5. Bring it down through the small loop made in Step 4.
  6. Pull the wide end down to tighten.
  7. Slide the knot up to adjust.

About the Oriental Knot

The Oriental Knot is also known as the Simple Knot, Small Knot or the Kent Knot. It has very few steps and is reported to be the easiest of all necktie knots to learn (of course that depends on your learning style – maybe you find simple things difficult and prefer astrophysics… we don’t).

While easy to learn, the Oriental Knot (Simple Knot) has the tendency to lean slightly to one side. This asymmetry may bother some and may be a welcomed relief to the lovers of asymmetry out there.
