To protect from foreign irritants, oysters and other molluscs produce a shiny pearl-white substance called nacre. Nacre builds up around the foreign object, coating the inside of the oyster shell. The end result is an iridescent porcelain-like shell with stunning hues of green and pink.

Followers of Eastern traditions associated mother-of-pearl with protection, wisdom, and fortune, and often make it a centrepiece in amulets and good luck charms.

On this men’s bracelet, square mother-of-pearl beads create an alternating pattern with surgical-grade stainless steel beads. Greek and Roman architecture inspire the carved motif on the stainless steel beads, and give this bracelet a striking contrast to the smooth, silky feel of the mother-of-pearl.

Because of its natural origins, each mother-of-pearl bead will show variations in its color and pattern.
