Why clip-on braces for men?

For centuries, men have depended on braces to keep their pants in place. The clip-on variety is the most convenient style you can get. They simply attach to your waistband and take seconds to secure.

Clip-on braces history

An early version of braces was invented in 18th century France. What we now consider a fashion staple was once meant purely for practical purposes. Back then, braces were considered to be undergarments. In fact, it was downright inappropriate for one’s braces to be visible in public. Modern-day braces were created and manufactured in 1820 by British designer Albert Thurston. The style at the time was to wear high-waisted pants that couldn’t be held up by belts, hence the need for braces. In 1894, clips replaced loops so buttons were no longer required to attach braces to trousers. And as they say, the rest is history!

How to match clip-on braces

Braces come in a wide array of colors and you might find it challenging to match them to your outfits. When it doubt, choose a neutral tone such as black, white, navy blue, or brown. Otherwise, simply coordinate your braces with your tie or pocket square.

Wearing your clip-on braces like a boss

Far from serving only as a means to keep your pants up, modern-day braces are meant to be worn for attention. Make sure you buy a quality, adjustable pair that fits you well. Ensure your button-down shirt is cleaned and pressed and that your trousers are tailored. Coordinate your braces with your tie or pocket square or wear them on their own as the star of the show. You can sport them with or without a belt and the same goes for a jacket. Wear your braces with confidence like the boss that you are!
