"Work smart, not harder". Christopher Thomas was probably not thinking of bow-ties when he coined that phrase but it does cleverly apply to pre-tied bow-ties. Some people have trouble tying up an ordinary necktie and are quite hopeless in trying to tie a freestyle bow-tie. Why then bother? A pre-tied bow-tie is hard to distinguish from one you tied yourself and goes on in seconds plus it stays in place solidly. Who needs the hassle, right?
